We use modern dust free sanding machines. Your floor will be sanded with 3 passes, a course grit to remove existing polish and help level the floor, a medium grit to remove scratches and stains and a fine grit sand prior to applying coatings. A sealer coating is applied firstly which prevents tannins penetrating the timber then 2 additional coatings are applied giving your floor a 3 coat seal of protection against the elements and ensuring your floor last longer and remain in good condition for years to come.
We use a variety of coatings systems including extremely durable and hard wearing polyurethane, 2 – Pac coatings systems, water based coatings, wax coatings. Coatings come in many different sheen levels from High Gloss to Semi Gloss to Satin to Matte and Michael can discuss the benefits of each type, helping you choose the right coatings and gloss level for your lifestyle.
Timber flooring is a natural product and once installed will continue to move and change with weather conditions. The Queensland weather extremes means that your floor will expand with humidity and shrinks with cooler dry weather. Artificial heating will also affect this process. This means that your floor can naturally form gaps between the boards. These gaps will close up naturally with the change of season. This is why we don’t normally fill the gaps between the boards during the sanding process. Larger gaps and any defects or holes can be successfully filled prior to coating. New flooring systems use secret nails where the nails aren’t visible but older timber floors have nails in the face of the board. These nails can be punched into the timber boards and the small hole filled with timber putty to conceal them. Wood Wizards are able to source similar timber species to your floor, remove any damaged boards and install timber to match.
Timber floors can become cupped and warped from water damage and require repairs. Michael is able to relieve the pressure between the boards, cut and remove boards where necessary and install expansion between the boards. The sanding process will return the boards to level before sealing with your choice of polish. This process often eliminates unnecessary and costly replacement of hardwood timber floors.
Queensland living is all about the outdoors and outdoor living and what better way to bring the indoor living outdoors than with a beautiful timber deck. Gernie and scrubbing can rejuvenate your timber deck but sometimes the coatings need removing and new coating applied. This is necessary for decks that have lost their colour due to age and sun or water damage such a pealing. It’s all about the preparation. Sanding the timber removed all existing coatings and will make the timber look like new. Oil or water based coating systems can be applied, usually 3 coats. If you deck is still in good condition we are able to give it a light sand and apply a single refresher coat. Nails will be punched down below the deck surface producing a cleaner sanding process.
