Timber Species and Characteristics
Most timber supplied by Boral Timbers Pty Ltd. Refer to their website for species.
Timber sizes – 40mm, 60mm, 80mm 85mm, 108mm, 130mm, 133mm and 180mm wide. Manufactured pre finished flooring is also avialable and is a good alternative to solid timber floor boards.
It is quicker to lay, no sanding and polishing is required as it is already sealed in the factory and it can be laid over underlay giving a quieter, softer floor to walk on. The species chosen will determine the overall colour of your floor. The same species may appear different from one supplier to another as timber grown in different areas and the age of the trees will vary the timbers colour and characteristics.
We supply and install mostly Australian Grown Hardwood Timbers. The grading of timber influences the characteristics of the floorboards. Timber is graded according to the number and size of features present (eg. Veins and knots).
Most timber suppliers grade their timber into the following categories
- Classic Grade or Select Grade (least veins and knots)
- Australiana Grade or Standard and Better (moderate veins and knots) and
- Natural Grade (lots of knots and veins).
Price varies according to the species and grading.
